Serve God with your skills and build His Kingdom by volunteering in the missions field.

Mission Builders

If you have a heart for missions — and especially Youth With A Mission — come and join Mission Builders, our short-term volunteer program.

Mission Builders have played a major role in making the YWAM Chico campus what it is today. They serve our campus in many ways, assisting with everything from carpentry and maintenance to food services, groundskeeping and secretarial work. Many of these wonderful volunteers come year after year because they’ve found it’s a challenging and spiritually refreshing experience — and a great way to make new friends from around the world.

If you’re over 18, in good health, and able to volunteer three weeks to three months of your time, come to Chico and become a Mission Builder.  Volunteers serve in various capacities 40 hours a week. Room and board are provided.
The Mission Builder program is for those who have not completed a YWAM DTS. If you are a DTS graduate, you can join us a short-term or long-term staff.

One ministry that regularly sends us volunteers is SOWERs. This ministry is made up of retired or semi-retired Christians who have recreational vehicles (RVs). SOWERS provide short-term volunteer help to our campus.  Our ministry provides SOWERS with RV hookups, materials and supplies, special tools, and work supervision. SOWERS may stay at our campus for one week (following your three-week work commitment) with RV hookups, giving you the opportunity to see the local sights or just rest and relax.

Bicycles in Chico, California

Though a city of more than 100,000, Chico retains a small town feel. It has a thriving downtown, several good farmers markets and a university. Chico is a bike town and is criss-crossed throughout with great trails. Bidwell park in the center of town is one of the largest municipal parks in the USA.

California’s geography makes various activities easily accessible. In a very short time, you can drive east to Lassen NP or Lake Tahoe to sled, ski or snowboard. Or you could drive west to the Pacific coast for a day at the beach. Nearby are also Lake Oroville and the Sacramento River.

Though we LOVE our rural location, and the small-town feel of Chico, we are a short drive from places like San Francisco, Sacramento, and Redding.

Missionaries often need the strength and encouragement of practical, hands-on help from volunteers just like you!  Whether it’s constructing buildings or washing windows, whatever your gifting or calling, Mission Builders can help where they are needed most. You are probably the answer to someone’s prayers for help!

Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
Volunteers are housed on our campus. Depending on availability, couples are accommodated in a small cottage and singles, in dormitory housing with our single staff.  Most lunches are served in our hotel dining room. Volunteers are responsible for other meals.

From a resort hotel built in 1923 to a comprehensive campus that covers nearly 500 acres and includes more than 80 buildings, YWAM Chico is a pedestrian-friendly campus nestled in a beautiful canyon, with many open spaces and a park-like environment that enhances the natural beauty of the canyon ridges, woods and creeks. Our campus provides something for everyone. From miles of hiking trails to tennis and volleyball courts to our Olympic-sized swimming pool, there are endless opportunities for outdoor recreation. Our expansive grounds provide ample space for spending time alone with God, or hanging out with people, or just getting away from it all. The hotel lobby has sitting areas, WiFi, a bookstore and a snack bar. You can visit our prayer room and soak in God’s presence, or jam in worship in Ebenezer Hall.  Get a Photo Tour of our campus.

A typical weekly schedule includes worship and intercession, service assignments alongside full-time YWAM missionaries, and devotional time with God. You’ll also have plenty of time to spend getting to know our students and our missionary staff, including lunch time, which is a community meal. Sundays are open for you to find a local church to join with in worship and fellowship.
